Claro Terms of Service

Claro is a Spanish learning app made by Breakpoint Labs LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("Breakpoint Labs", "we", "us"). These terms are the deal between you and us when you use the Claro mobile app, the website at learnclaro.com, and anything connected to them (together, "Claro"). If you don't agree with them, please don't use Claro.

1. What Claro is

Claro is a textbook-style Spanish course delivered as an app: chapters and lessons, an original story per chapter, exercises, a flashcard repository with spaced-repetition review, a quiz mode, and a translator that returns Spain, Mexico, and Colombia versions of what you type. Some of it is free. The rest needs a Claro Pro plan.

Claro is a learning tool. It is not a certified language course, and completing it does not confer any qualification. The translator is powered by a large language model and can be wrong; don't rely on it for anything legal, medical, or safety-critical.

2. Your account

You sign in with an email address and a one-time code. No password. You're responsible for keeping access to that email address secure and for everything that happens under your account. You must be at least 13 to use Claro (16 in the European Economic Area). If you're under 18, a parent or guardian has to agree to these terms for you.

One account per person. Don't share your account or resell access.

3. Free, trial, and Pro

Chapter 0 and Chapter 1 are free forever, along with the flashcards and quizzes built from them, and 10 translations per day. No purchase is needed to read them.

New accounts get 3 free days of full access, extendable to 7 by completing exercises; no card required. Every UTC day you complete 3 or more exercises, you earn one more day of full access, up to 4 extra days (7 days total). After the trial ends, chapters beyond 0 and 1 need Claro Pro.

Claro Pro unlocks every chapter, unlimited translations (with a fair-use cap of 100 per day), and everything we add to Pro later. Pro is $4.99/month or $39.99/year, sold as a monthly or annual subscription. Prices are shown in the app and on the website before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.

Where you bought it matters. Purchases made inside the iOS app are billed by Apple; inside the Android app, by Google. Purchases on our website are billed by Stripe. Renewals, cancellation, and refunds for a purchase are handled by whoever billed it: Apple through your Apple ID subscriptions, Google through Google Play, and Stripe through the "Manage subscription" link in your Claro account on the web. 4. What you can and can't do

You can use Claro for your own personal learning. You can't:

We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules. If we close your account for a violation, you are not owed a refund.

5. Our content and your content

Everything in Claro's curriculum (lessons, examples, stories, exercises, flashcards, and the way it's organized) belongs to Breakpoint Labs and is protected by copyright. You get a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use it inside Claro while you have an account.

Things you type into Claro (translator inputs, custom flashcards, feedback) are yours. You give us a license to store and process them so Claro works, and to use them in anonymized, aggregated form to improve the product. We don't sell your content.

6. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy (/legal/privacy) explains what we collect and why. It's part of these terms.

7. Changes to Claro and to these terms

We'll keep changing Claro: new chapters, new features, fixes. We can also change or discontinue features. If we make a material change to these terms, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Claro after that means you accept the change. If you don't, cancel and stop using Claro.

8. Disclaimers

Claro is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise Claro will be error-free or always available, or that you'll reach any particular level of Spanish.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Breakpoint Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising out of Claro. Our total liability to you for anything related to Claro is capped at the greater of $50 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

10. Termination

You can stop using Claro any time and delete your account from the Me tab (or by emailing us). We can suspend or terminate access for a breach of these terms or if we have to for legal reasons. Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, and 12 survive termination.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Denver, Colorado, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing anything, email us; most things get sorted out in a conversation.

12. Everything else

These terms plus the Privacy, Refund, and Cookie policies are the whole agreement between us about Claro. If part of them is unenforceable, the rest stands. We can assign these terms to a successor; you can't assign yours without our consent.
